My name is Michelle and I am 24 years old.
For as long as I can remember I had a dream. A dream to find home. I am
Dutch, but for some reason I always had the longing to live somewhere
else. I never really knew where or why, I just knew The Netherlands
wasn’t home to me. When I visited Australia in 2014, I fell in love. I
knew it straight away: this is my home. And here my journey started.
After travelling through Australia and being back home, I couldn’t stop
talking about this amazing country. I repeated every day, sometimes out
loud, but most of the time to myself ‘I am going back’.
And then normal life happened. Back to work and back to reality. Still
that voice never left ‘I am going back’.
I started to do research about emigration, about Australia, visas and job
opportunities. Nothing happened though, I just imagined it and spoke
about it to my closest friends, until I realized something. Nothing will
happen until I change my talking into doing. There it was. My actions
speak louder than words moment. I had to start doing instead of talking.
First step was visiting an emigration expo and this action spoke louder
than all my words together.
This visit was the start of realizing my dream.
And here I am, 18 months later. I am in Australia. I am living in
Australia. The dream is almost reality, as I am waiting on my
visa-approval, but besides that little detail and being here in this
moment, my dream is reality. I am living my dream because I put all my
words into action and started doing instead of talking. All I want to say
to anybody and everybody is that you really can do anything. There is
reality and some things aren’t able straight a way, but if you want it. I
mean really want it, you will find a way. You just have to start, take
action and let them speak. Let them speak louder than words.
