The solar plexus chakra, also known as Manipura (Sanskrit: मणिपूर), is the third chakra. It is located just above your belly button. It is associated with the power of transformation and is the center of personal power, willpower, and achievement. A balanced solar plexus chakra makes it easy to find balance and harmony.
An overactive manipura can manifest as needing excessive control over your environment or other people, being manipulative, or abusing power. A blocked solar plexus chakra can appear as feeling helpless, behaving irresponsibly, having a lack of clear direction, ambition or purpose, or even making plans but rarely following through with them or making inefficient actions when you do.
The solar plexus chakra is associated with the element fire and is connected to the digestive system and metabolism. If you have digestive issues, whether being overactive or sluggish, your problem could be relative to manipura. Weak “fire” in the digestive system is often thought to be toxic to your systems.
The main function of this chakra is to provide you energy to move forward and function in everything, from digesting food to achieving success. It takes a fundamental position in determining your sense of personal power in your life. It feeds your direction in life and the actions you take to achieve your goals. How you feel about your social status and your self-image are also influenced by this chakra.
Some ways to heal your solar plexus chakra through foods are by eating squash, sweet potatoes, corn, golden apples and brown rice. Citrine, Amber, Sunstone, and Tiger’s Eye are some examples of stones that have healing qualities for manipura. Affirmations are a great way to deal with issues with this chakra. You can find a list of 7 common limiting beliefs and the healing affirmations for them here. Some yoga poses to try are Paripurna Navasana (Full Boat Pose), Bharadvajasana I (Bharadvaja’s Twist), or Virabhadrasana I and Virabhadrasana II (Warrior 1 &2).
