The sacral chakra, also known as Svadhishthana (Sanskrit: स्वाधिष्ठान), is the second chakra. It’s location is just above the root chakra and just below the belly button. It’s element is water, and it is associated with sensuality, creativity, and the emotional body. It is connect with sense of taste and reproduction.
The sacral chakra has a great deal to do with our behaviors in relationships, our emotions, and our feelings. Our creativity comes from the sacral chakra. It also relates to our expression of sexuality and our fantasies. Sexual desire and pleasure are strongly linked to the condition of your sacral chakra. It is the driving force for enjoyment in life. How you feel and experience the world comes from this chakra.
This chakra is associated with the water element, and is characterized with movement and flow of our thoughts and emotions. Flexibility in life is strongly connected to Svadhishthana.
Signs of an imbalanced sacral chakra include being ruled by your emotions and dependency or codependency with a person or substance. The person may be overindulgent in fantasies and sexual obsessions. These signify an overactive sacral chakra. A blocked sacral chakra can manifest as feeling numb or disconnected from the world or having a lack of sexual desire.
A few yoga poses you can try to help heal your second chakra are Gomukhasana (Cow Face), Paripurna Navasana (Full Boat), or Utkatasana (Chair). These poses can help to open and activate the sacral chakra, allowing energy to flow through freely and clearly. Getting outside near bodies of water such as the ocean, lakes, rivers, or streams can help open your sacral chakra. You also can take a relaxing bath or shower and meditate upon your sacral chakra. Focus on accepting your emotions, desires, and expressing yourself freely while meditating.
